Learn about us
The Elkin Valley Fiddlers formed as a group in 2012. Our first gathering was in downtown Elkin, beside the Yadkin River in Crater Park. We invited several bands to come and play for fun on a Saturday afternoon, on a chilly and wet April weekend, to see if Elkin would be a good fit for a local music festival. In spite of the weather, the musicians and their fans loved Elkin.
Each year since, we have expanded our musical talents and genres, and relocated the festival to the Elkin Municipal Park. In 2015, we changed our festival name to the Elkin Roots Music Fest and added food trucks, wineries and breweries.
In 2017, we moved the festival to the Foothills Arts Council in celebration of their 40th anniversary. The arts council recently installed a beautiful new band shelter.
For 2018 and 2019, we're scheduled to hold the festival indoors at the newly renovated Historic Reeves Theater, located one block down from the arts council on W Main Street. We look forward to sharing another year of diverse and engaging music with our fans of all ages!
The Elkin Valley Fiddlers is a non-profit group that formed in 2012, when a group of local musicians decided to bring a music festival to Elkin, North Carolina.
The festival began as an old-time fiddle event, but has since grown to feature music with a regional roots theme.
Under the umbrella of the Foothills Arts Council, Elkin Valley Fiddlers now sponsors both the Surry Old Time Fiddlers Convention in Dobson and the Elkin Roots Music Fest.
Our festival is nestled in the beautiful foothills of North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains, centrally located in Yadkin Valley and the Yadkin Valley Wine Region (AVA).
Elkin, North Carolina is situated between Stone Mountain State Park and Pilot Mountain State Park. Downtown Elkin is bordered by the Yadkin River and the Big Elkin Creek and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
As both musicians and music lovers who live in the Yadkin Valley, we are immersed in a vibrant local music scene. Our mission is to share our joy of music and to encourage people of all ages to experience the rich variety of music in our region.
As we look to continue our festival each year, we hope to build support for musicians and musical performances in our area.
Although there are many music festivals throughout North Carolina, our mission is to offera more intimate setting and an opportunity for more personal exchanges with the artists.
Big Ron Hunter (pictured above) has played the blues at our festival the past 3 years and has opened our region to a new appreciation for the blues...especially with his positive message and contagious, joyful personality!
In the past, here are a few of our featured entertainers:
Presley Barker, guitar virtuoso, was a crowd favorite. We've asked him to return this year for another performance. He'll be preforming solo this year and with the Harris Brothers!
